Chartered in 1943, the Massillon Lions Club is known for its efforts in sight and hearing conservation and community service. The Club pays for eyeglasses and exams, hearing aids, and batteries for those in need. The organization contributes to vision research and underwrites the cost of pilot dogs for those who need financial assistance.
In 1981 the Club purchased the Lincoln Theatre to preserve a local landmark, to provide public service by offering entertainment at reasonable prices, and to offer public meeting space in the upstairs meeting room. The Lions continue to care for the theatre by serving on the Theatre Board, assisting with fundraising, and staffing the many volunteer positions.
